Jazz Orchestra

The GDYO Jazz Orchestra is made up of students who are high school seniors or younger. With its addition of strings and horn to a traditional jazz band, the Jazz Orchestra focuses on new music, modern arrangements of standards, and newly commissioned works. The unique sound of the jazz orchestra gives students an experience not available anywhere else in the metroplex.

Instruments accepted in the jazz Orchestra are: Violin, Cello, Saxophone (Alto, Tenor, or Bari), Horn (French Horn), Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, Piano, Vibraphone, Bass (electric encouraged – either is fine), and Drum set.

Musicians should have a strong facility with their instrument. Improvisation is a plus, but not required.

They have performed at the Jazz Educators Network national conference and regularly share the stage with national and international solo artists as a part of our collaboration with the Texins Jazz Band

Under the direction of Kris Berg, the Jazz Orchestra performs three concerts annually.
